Everyone who knows Amerie definitely knows her for her record-breaking hit track 1 Thing, which shot her to great heights in the competitive music industry. The talented American singer is also a songwriter, record producer, actress, and author who has left an indelible mark on the industry. Although she comes from a conservative family, Amerie remained true to her dream of becoming an entertainer and accepted all challenges with her head held high. There is so much to learn about the singer’s life; here are some lesser-known facts about Amerie. She was born on January 12, 1980, as Amerie Mi Marie Rogers, but later changed her stage name to Ameriie. She attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and graduated with a B.A. in English and a minor in Design in the Fine Arts Department. Amerie has always been interested in the creative arts. While in school, she met a club promoter who introduced her to producer Rich Harrison.

Harrison also produced for artists like Mary J. Blige. The popular producer got Amerie her first record deal with Columbia Records, which led to the release of her first album All I Have.

Amerie may not be as prominent as she was in the early 2000s, but she certainly lives a comfortable life. The singer sits on an estimated net worth of $6 million and owes that to her music. She is not only a musician, part of her income comes from her many appearances on television as well as from her film roles.
Her Family – Parents, Siblings
Although she has American citizenship, Ameriie is of Korean and African-American descent. Her mother Mi Suk was South Korean, while her father Charles is African-American. Since her father was in the U.S. military, Ameriie and her mother had to constantly change locations to be with him. According to the talented singer, her parents were quite conservative and convinced Christians who uphold Christian values.

The time off that Amerie has taken from the music industry is causing her fans great concern. After her fame in the early 2000s with hits like 1 Thing and others, it seemed as if the singer would take an indefinite break from singing and performing. Although she considers this to be normal, her fans still can’t decipher the reasons for this.

In an interview with Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club”, Amerie revealed that she is not one of those who love fame or red carpet nonsense and tried to combine this with a great fear of publicity. In her opinion, this is the main reason why she is not on screen today. Amerie shifted her focus more to writing books, an art she had fallen in love with as a child. She has several EPs in her name and writes and produces more movies than music.
